Finance your studies in Spain

Find out what you need to do to finance your study project in Spain

How to finance your study project in Spain

As you may have already realised, entering public universities in Spain is rather difficult - at least for the courses sought by good and very good students - due to the limited number of places available.

The selection principle is based on the application of the ‘nota de corte’, which classifies applications by level and proposes admission to the best ones according to the number of places available.

You will then have to finance your studies and you must be aware that there is no really significant aid available to you.

You will have to handle these scholarship applications directly with the university.

What solution to finance your studies in Spain?

Preparing to study in Spain while relying 100% on university grants is not recommended.

To study in Spain you need to:

  • Rely on your own funds OR
  • Take out a bank loan

Our advice is to go to your bank to take out a student loan.

Ask at least two other banks. A student (a potential future professional) is very attractive to a bank in the medium to long term, and the best way for them to do this is to attract them at the time of their studies.

However, you should also be aware that the amount you are loaned does not depend on your future profession, nor on the money you need to finance your studies and live in Spain for several years, but solely on the ability to repay of the person who is going to act as guarantor for you.

A LAST WORDS OF ADVICE: Don’t leave if you haven’t approved all your funding. If you were to stop mid-study, not only would you have lost money, but you would also have wasted time, as the part of the course that has already been financed would not be available for you to continue, either at a Spanish public university or in your own country.
